An old man was
planting a sapling by the side of the road when a stranger stopped and
asked, “Why are you planting a tree at your age? It will be
many years before it provides fruit and shade. You may not live to
enjoy it.” The man replied, “All my life I have
enjoyed food and shade provided by those who came before me. As my
ancestors planted for me, I plant now for my children and my
children’s children."

Campaign Case for Support |
| |
| This campaign represents
the culmination of eight years of careful planning that involved large
segments of the congregation. It represents the first major campaign in
the Congregation’s history. Our shul and campus were
constructed in 1964 to serve up to 500 families. Except for the
addition of a stairwell and atrium twenty years ago, the facility has
not changed since that time. Meanwhile our congregation has doubled.
Here is a summary of the campaign’s objectives: |
|
- The
campaign will add a new intermediate size Chapel space for prayer and
other appropriate uses for up to 250 people at a time.
- A new administrative wing will incorporate a new
entry, provide a more secure and welcoming environment, consolidate
staff offices, and make our classrooms contiguous while expanding the
number of youth and adults served by our schools.
- All construction will follow the latest
environmental standards to make our facility earth-friendly.
- Seating, lighting, and acoustics in the sanctuary
will be dramatically improved.
- Other deferred maintenance needs will be
addressed.
- Improvements are already underway at both of our
cemeteries, including expansion of the chapel at Ahavai Shalom.
- The campaign includes an endowment component to
assure that we will be able to operate this facility in a prudent
manner.

This campaign will provide for the needs of our present congregation
and generations to come. It is truly a unique opportunity for us all.
Gifts of cash or appreciated securities may be fulfilled over a period
of up to five years. Deferred gifts to the endowment through wills or
estates are welcome. Other planned giving methods, such as gifts of
property with a retained life interest, are also available.
For us to be truly successful, we must not only
reach the dollar goal,
but must have the
active participation of every member of the
Congregation, at whatever level is appropriate. Congregation Neveh
Shalom belongs to us all, and all of us must provide for its future.
